A benchmarking methodology was used to estimate irrigation performance on different management levels in Ukraine's agricultural sector. It was used to assess North Crimean Canal irrigation systems using data from irrigation management departments. The results show that effective operation of these large-scale systems depends on effective controls on inner-farm sprinkling systems and on meeting the complex water requirements of the various crop patterns found in the region.
