The Yuayo Municipality, located in NE China's Zhejiang Province, has tested many innovations in sprinkler and drip techniques, including:- polythene pipe to replace steel pipe, the use of river networks instead of a main pipe, replacing pump stations with movable pump sets, introducing small-scale irrigation, and introducing fixed main-pipe with movable branch and laterals. All these innovations have reduced costs to half of a conventional system. Analysis of the rate of irrigation development shows that reduction of costs is the key factor to increasing development rate, enhancing water use efficiency, and accelerating agriculture modernization.
