Abstract:

Based on theoretical analyses for 3 processes of farm water conservation and water use efficiency at 3 levels (leaf, population and yield), four technical systems for agricultural water saving (AWS) are presented. These include a system of water-saving cultivation, a system of water-saving irrigation, a system of water saving management, and a system of water saving extension. The latter is key for the realization of AWS technology. The current AWS potential in China is expounded and some methods enhancing AWS potential are recommended.
