Abstract:

Experiments were conducted during 2001-02 in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan, to determine the effects of water stress (4, 3, 2 and one irrigation) on the biomass and grain yield of wheat genotypes Iqbal-2000, Uqab-2000, Chenab-2000, 97112 and 95153. The variation in water use efficiency of wheat genotypes grown under irrigated conditions was also studied. Water stress reduced yield in all genotypes due to a decrease in yield components. The differential response of genotypes under different water stress treatments indicated their ability to tolerate water deficit situations. Water use efficiency decreased with an increase in number of irrigation.
