More than 70 percent of Colorado, and all of Boulder County, is in an “extreme drought,” according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. And while Boulder County cities largely have avoided any mandatory water restrictions — thanks to reservoirs that started the summer practically brimming over with meltwater from last year’s huge snowpack — the exceptionally dry conditions are being felt acutely by local ranchers.
