Uncertainty swirls around NM water rules

A coalition of conservation groups went on the defensive Tuesday, vowing to fight any efforts by Gov. Susana Martinez’s administration and state lawmakers during the upcoming legislative session to roll back recently approved regulations aimed at protecting New Mexico’s limited water resources. The coalition’s pledge comes on the heels of a petition filed by a group of New Mexico ranchers with the state Water Quality Control Commission. The ranchers want the panel to undo a sweeping designation that guarantees special protection for hundreds of miles of rivers and streams..
