Local producers were “mind-boggled” last week when told a bill aimed at addressing the destructive high groundwater levels in the South Platte River Basin could be vetoed — despite the bill passing by such wide margins in the state House and Senate during the recent legislative session.
Weld County farmers say they were first notified of a potential veto Thursday in Denver while attending a meeting with John Stulp, Gov. John Hickenlooper’s adviser on water policy, to discuss House Bill 1278.
