Irrigation water has flowed here for more than a century, but when the season started this week for roughly 60 Grandview & Sunnyside area growers, it arrived via a new pressurized pipe system designed to benefit both farmers & fish. The pipes are just the latest step in a 20-year effort that so far saves nearly 50,000 AF of water each year across the Yakima Basin — enough to fill the Bumping Lake reservoir 1.5 times — or, put another way, 16 billion gallons.
