CSU-TAPS Outreach at USDA RMA Field Day

The CSU-TAPS team showcased the program to more than 50 staff from the USDA Risk Management Agency, nationwide, on August 1 at CSU’s CoBank Center for Agricultural Education.

RMA worked with IIC Associate Director Amy Kremen and CSU-TAPS staff to organize a daylong program of presentations and tours. The event showcased the variety of research underway at CSU’s Agricultural Research, Development & Education Center (ARDEC).

Presentations included:

·      Dr. Carolyn Lawrence-Dill’s welcome to the group, stopping by on her first day as the new dean of CSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences.

·      Dr. Gene Kelly, director of the Colorado Agricultural Experiment Station, and Troy Bauder, associate director, shared an overview of work going on at the 9 state locations.

·      Kremen and Omer Izrael, CSU-TAPS program manager, presented on CSU-TAPS.

·      Drs. Pedro Carvalho and Diego Manriquez-Alvarez showcased their work on sustainable beef and dairy systems as part of the AgNext program.

The hot weather and hazy sky from the Alexander Mountain Fire didn’t stop the visitors from enjoying the site visit. They toured the AgNext livestock facilities and grazing pivot; agrivoltaics installations with Dr. Mark Uchanski; and visited with Barry Ogg about CSU’s Foundation Wheat breeding work. They finished by checking out crop progress and technology installations in the CSU-TAPS field, hosted by Izrael.
