Harvest Day for 2024 CSU-TAPS

Harvest on November 6, 2024, was a cold 35 degrees Fahrenheit at the CSU-TAPS competition field in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The CSU-TAPS competitions are hosted by CSU’s Agricultural Research, Development & Education Center (ARDEC) northeast of Fort Collins, Colorado.

The research-grade harvester weighs and measures each plot’s yield as it goes; there are 90 total plots in the field, representing 30 teams.

Low-tech meets high-tech: spray-painted cornstalks mark the competition plots for the harvester.

IIC Executive Director Tim Martin checks in with CSU-TAPS Precision Irrigation Manager Wub Yilma on the harvest.

The CSU-TAPS field is located at CSU’s ARDEC South – Horticulture Field Research Center in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Brad Floyd, USDA ARS biological science technician, has been operating harvesters for more than 20 years.

After harvest, the CSU-TAPS team will calculate the yields for all 90 competition plots. The two-row combine harvester generated 540 data points for the CSU-TAPS field
